Freedom Jam '05

70 bands, three stage and 6 hours of live music...
The main stage was just extra-ordinary - to LOOK AT!! It was huge and had some 170,000 Watts of raw power!! Well, that was for the really big bands...(decade old types) , Then there was the small second stage where all the upcoming bands had gathered. Everyone was there...Whitenoiz, Inviktus, Extinct reflections, KCOR, Encychropaedia, etc, and of course us. The day was wholly disappointing as we , being a new band, got relegated to the third stage the smallest. One fourth of the second in size... I spent almost 7 hours battling the heat, frustration and pique of my fellow band members. At last, tired and hurting all over , I smoked up...and then everything was GREAT!!! ALL the pain disappeared along with any memory of the lyrics...I had to read the stuff on stage....and we fucked up to hell and back...and yet I had an awesome time screaming the highest notes that I have ever screamed...
Defining moment of the night....Extinct reflection..with prasad on vocals...what presence and what sound...this was on the second stage...although it doesnt feel that great to be relegated, but well this was dimentia's second gig...and we stank...Pretty much the entire band was stoned....BIG STAGE was a sqib...nothing exciting ... just a couple of geriatrics pretending to be rock stars...

PSYCHROMED!!

the new song!!
the winner!
the song that will elevate us to the godhood of the bangalore metal scene !
Its all metal! All Raw! Low lyrical content! Just plain Heavy!!
Structurally complex and rythmically violent! Yet the stuff head banging was invented for....

Plenty of surprises in the song, which is intended to catch the listner off guard, sudden drop in tempo...to a flight of bass heavy riffs...all sentenced rythm flow...
Cannot wait to unleash this beast on bangalore
...
Possible names...
Psychromed!
Blood will pacify!
The brotherhood of METAL!!!

A question of heaven

Although I havent heard much of iced earth's music, I can say that they have left quite an impression. I dont even know much about the band...But they seem to belong to the maiden cadre of metal bands...There choice of interesting themes for their songs appeal strongly to me...One in particular is running as my present favorite, "A question of heaven"... based on the comic series hero, "SPAWN".

It tells the story of man who dies and then sells his soul to be with his wife, only to realize that she's married his best friend....An awesome combination of melody and metal...

In his angered appeals to god to end his misery, the vocalist exudes great metal spirit...And after the clean intro...the shift to full blown metal riff verse is pretty gripping...

One day I will cover this song...

Metal Warriors

What is it about metal that draws me so? Vulgar display of power? The act of being larger than life? Just the sound of Drop-D riffs stirring my soul? I reckon it’s a bit of all of these. I struggled for 7 months in Bangalore to look for a metal outfit ready for a new vocalist. On my ex-drummer, Akshat’s suggestion I put up my classifieds on RSJ.

The response came and Psychrome was born (some pics) ..weekends initially and before the competition weekdays as well…The initial struggle was to have a cohesive sound…After about two months of struggling with bad timing, we finally began to make sense.

Our initial list is Metallica’s ‘Master of puppets’, Maiden’s “Hallowed”, Manowar’s “Metal Warriors” and our metal rendition of “purple sun”. The effect of playing “metal warriors” is breathtaking..its purpose is to be a wakeup call….And to signal that metal warriors have taken stage….

“Every one of us has heard the call”
“Brothers of true metal, proud and standing tall”
“We know the power within us, has brought us to this hall”
“There’s magic in the metal or no metal at all”

“Heavy METAL!!! Or no metal at all!!!”
“Whimps and posers, leave the hall”

“Every must listen to our decree”
“We don’t turn down for anyone we do just what we please”
“Got to make it louder, all men play on ten”
“If you’re not into metal, you are not my friend”

There is no band like manowar….I pay my tribute everytime I take stage…
We start “Master of puppets” psychrome style…with a ear splitting upper E….
By the time “Master” draws to a close, I have no voice left to sing “Hallowed”
But we are gonna change that….

The best part are the bass-heavy riffs in “Master”..and the overlaid solo…and the maiden harmonized twin leads… I want Psychrome to exude raw power on stage….always starting the show with something to the tune of manowar…death..or dark tranquility…
Mellowing to our OC…then off to some serious metal….We have to think of a stage act..
Its emerging…just needs to take form….
